Submissions

We want bold stories told with poetic precision. Show us the world in ways we haven’t yet seen it, in no more than 3000 words.

We’re interested in unpublished stories, not reprints, though we will consider new translations of stories not widely available in English (all rights are the responsibility of the translator). Simultaneous submissions are fine, but multiple submissions will be deleted unread. After you hear from us about one story, we ask that you wait a few weeks before sending another so we have time to read other writers’ submissions, too.

Also, because there has been some confusion on this, submissions should not be sent to our monthly Writer In Residence. They’re here to share their own work, and don’t participate in our regular submissions and editorial process.

Please send your submissions via Submishmash, at http://necessaryfiction.submishmash.com/Submit.
